This classic apartment in NYC’s Greenwich Village fortunately retained its charming original floorplan… including the challenging windowless foyer of the era, which we reinvented as a library and office space.  What better introduction to a home than a warmly lit oak library with a wall mural?   The living room features a new Nero Marquina marble fireplace—a replica of one I glimpsed in a 1930s building lobby one day and never forgot.  The west end of the room is anchored by a custom curved banquette overlooking 5th ave, 1950s Saarinen dining chairs & table, and a vintage 1960s chandelier that…to my great satisfaction…is visible from a few stories down on the street.  Perfection!  The kitchen channels the clients’ love of Parisian cafes with a modern interpretation of the hand chopped marble mosaic floors, bold marbles, and subway tile for days (here in a deep forest green)… while the bathroom nods to European 1920s hotel baths… decked in luminous nickel, marble, mosaics, fluted sconces….and endless sunlight.   I look at these pics and I can practically hear jazz from the Bill Evans Trio in the background.
